Q: What are Akrowheels and how exactly are they different from the ab wheel or push up bars?
Think of Akrowheels as a happy marriage between push up bars and the Ab-wheel combined with the multi-planar functionality of a cable crossover machine. Akrowheels use the body's natural leverage to develop balanced strength and tone virtually all the body's muscles with simple, effective exercises. Whereas push up bars and the ab-wheel allow the user to perform only one exercise, Akrowheels allow for virtually limitless core training and ab strengthening possibilties. Akrowheels can be used one arm at a time, making them suitable for beginner workouts as well as advanced, sport-specific training.
Q: What is the benefit to training with Akrowheels versus, say, my normal weight training routine?
There are many notable differences between these training philosophies. Perhaps the most notable is that functional training integrates the core muscles into most movements in a multi-planar fashion. Traditional weight training tends to focus on isolating muscles for growth which can easily lead to physiques that are out of balance. A quick summary adapted from the Fitness Anywhere website is below:
| Traditional Weight Training |
Functional Training |
| Focuses on one muscle at a time |
Use of many muscles simultaneously |
| Seated or supported position |
Need to stabilize self |
| Overuses forward/backward plane of motion |
Uses all three planes of motion equally |
| Slow movement speeds for machine reps |
Replicates movement of every day life |
| Not related to movements of everyday life |
Core muscles actively engaged |
| Typically results in tighter muscles |
Allows for maximum strength capacity |
| Un-challenging postures |
Improves posture |
| Range of motion restricted |
More muscles engaged |
| Develop more bulging, bulky, swollen muscles |
Longer more natural looking muscles |
| Can lead to muscular imbalances/overuse issues |
Helps prevent injuries |
| Controlled and less effective movement pattern |
Purposeful movement pattern |
| Shortening of muscle tissue |
Lengthening of muscle tissue |
Q: Who are AKROwheels good for?
A:
AKROwheels are suitable for most fitness levels. In
the included
DVD you will find 3 exercise routines: beginner, core, and
strength. Men and women of all ages have experienced
the benefits of AKROwheels.
Q:
What ground surfaces are good for AKROwheels?
A: The
rubber non-slip and non-marking wheels work well on almost
all
surfaces (hard wood, carpet, even grass!). We suggest
starting with
the AKROwheels on a mat as it's a more stable and forgiving
surface than hardwood. Additionally different surfaces will
change your experience. A hard
floor will make AKROwheels the most challenging. If
you want an even
easier way to start, try using them on a soft carpet or
even against
a wall.
Q:
What comes with the product?
A: Your
purchase comes with a
workout DVD (beginner,
core, and strength routines), an
instructional manual, and
a
workout log.
Q:
It looks hard! Don't I already need to be in shape to use
these?
A:
Akrowheels can be used for easy exercises and hard
exercises. No matter your fitness level, workouts can be
adjusted to suit your individual needs.
Using one Akrowheel at a time will turn a difficult
exercise into an easy one. The included DVD will get you
started with 3 different workouts. Akrowheels are also
perfect for taking stretches further - even if you're
Gumby!
Q: My AKROwheels are too tight or too loose, is there a
problem?
A: Not
at all.
Using a simple standard Allen wrench you can adjust the
tension on your wheels to make it feel just right. If
you want more of a
challenge, or if you are using akrowheels mostly for
stretching, you
may want the wheels to be a little looser. If you are
just beginning
a new strength routine, you may want the extra control of
having them
tighter.
Q: What kind of results can I expect to see?
A:
AKROwheels have been used by some of the nations top
athletes, including the
US Navy SEALs, Mixed martial arts champions, NFL players
and Olympic athletes. They
are also used by everyday people, trainers and in
Yoga/Pilates studios. Whatever your practice, Akrowheels
will help you increase core strength while dramatically
toning the entire upper body. They can also be used to help
flexibility in the chest, shoulders and back.
Q: Are they Sturdy?
A:
Absolutely! AKROwheels are made of the finest materials and
have been tested with people up to 250 lbs. They are
professional grade and are trusted in gyms around the
country.
Q:
Is it good for people with back or shoulder problems?
A: As
with any new fitness product or routine, please check with
your physician first. Akrowheels have been used in Physical
therapy offices to help rehab shoulder and back injuries
and can help increase range of motion and strengthen
stabilizer muscles. You may consider training under the
guidance of a professional if the injury is chronic.
Q:
What is the warranty?
A:
AKROwheels come with a one-year limited warranty and will
be replaced if damaged.
